Tinners stock, ca. 1878.

ArchivalResource

Tinners stock, ca. 1878.

A compilation of trade catalogs, ads, price lists, and images, all combined into a volume apparently put together by C. A. Jewett. The trade catalogs issued by the Lalance and Grosjean Manufacturing Co. (of New York, N.Y.) have examples of agate iron ware, plain stamped ware, and retinned deep stamped ware. In general, these are kitchen and baking pots, pans, and utensils, but also included are toilet sets, spittoons, candlesticks, a few other household items, and milk cans. The Peck, Stow & Wilcox Co. catalog depicts various kinds of tools and machines (burring, wiring, setting down, forming, etc.) for working with tin. The pictures cut from other catalogs or ads are labeled and include prices, but do not always list which company is offering the items. These items are mostly kitchen utensils, pots, and pans, but also included are bird cages, fly screens, sad irons, lamps, hand trucks, stove pipes, cash boxes, and some tin workers supplies (solder, kettle "ears" for repairs, etc.). A few items are of copper or brass.
